TASE Trauma-Informed Care (TIC)

What is Trauma-Informed Care?

The world is rapidly moving fast, confusing, interconnected, complicated and traumatic.

From natural disaster, domestic violence and second-hand suffering experienced through social media, we are continuously exposed to various forms of trauma.

The truth is, it’s more than common to come across with someone who experienced trauma than who has not.

The goal of Trauma-Informed Care (TIC) is to avoid re-traumatization by triggering psychological or physiological memories. These memories can be triggered by smells, sounds, textures, feelings, words, and environments.

Trauma-Informed Care Program in TASE Community follows these goals by working with the client through trauma-informed somatic work, breathwork, vagal toning, grounding, regulating the nervous system, and building the mind-body connection not by bringing up painful memories.

What is Trauma?

Trauma is multi-layered, and it rarely happens by itself. It always overlaps with other forms of trauma.

Individual trauma affects a person on a physical, psychological, or emotional level that causes long-term damage such as accident or medical-related trauma.

Interpersonal trauma affects a person as a direct result of another person’s actions such as domestic violence.

Collective trauma affects individuals and communities across countries or the world such as war and poverty.

That is where Trauma-Informed Care gets in and understands that almost everyone has experienced by some form of trauma and should be treated with 4 R in mind.

What are the 4 R’s?

The 4 R are the four terms when caring for someone with trauma to help them heal.

  1. Realization
Mental and healthcare professionals, centres, and programs must realize that trauma is multi-layered and affects people on an individual, interpersonal and collective level.
  2. Recognize
Professionals and programs need to be able to recognize the signs and symptoms of trauma to help those who have been traumatized.
  3. Respond
Professionals and programs should respond with effective methods of treatment to help heal trauma
  4. Resist
Efforts must be made to resist retraumatizing a person through triggering events or memories of a trauma.

What are the 5 Principles of Trauma-Informed Care (TIC)

These Principles are guides used by professionals, centres, and programs to ensure the method of treatment follows the 4 R approach.

  1. Safety
The emotional and physical safety of the person must be ensured.
Trauma-Informed Care Program in TASE Community, in physical setting, we give space for the person, not standing over them and ensuring they have access to a safe place to retreat to. We also practice safety by giving tools to heal themselves from the physical safety of their home. In terms of emotional safety, our communication is analysed for triggering content.
  2. Trustworthiness
Efforts should be taken to ensure the trustworthiness of the professional, programs, or institutions that offers mental care and health care to traumatized people. Trauma-Informed Care Program in Tase Community creates trustworthiness with our client base on constant communication with them and feedback.
  3. Choice
Choice is an important part of any kind of recovery and healing. Choosing to take part in a program, choosing to commit time, and choosing to commit oneself to the future mental health are all ways to ensure success.
  4. Collaboration
Many people feel overwhelmed when they start any kind of mental health program. To ease the person into the program, to feel comfortable and create the best environment to heal, we collaborate. We collaborate by giving the education and explanation of our exercises and methods instead of just telling what to do. We constantly ask for feedback to benefit you and others.
  5. Empowerment
People on their mental health journey are often in a disempowered and vulnerable state. It’s important to make them feel empowered and help them be active participants in their own healing.

The 4 R approach guided by the 5 Principles of Trauma Informed Care, puts the health and wellbeing of the traumatized person first and everything else second. TASE Trauma-Informed Care Program goals to empower our clients by providing them with the tools to help them heal themselves in a space where they are safe and comfortable.

TASE Trauma-Informed Care Program goal is to empower our clients by providing them with the tools to help them heal themselves in a space where they are safe and comfortable.
