If you've ever heard the phrase "inner child," you might be curious about its meaning. Contrary to popular belief, this concept is not new. The term "inner child" was introduced years ago by psychologist Carl Jung. However, its relevance and interest have surged in recent years.

The inner child represents the part of ourselves that retains the feelings, memories, and experiences of our youth, illustrating the profound influence of our childhood years on our adult lives. While everyone has an inner child, not all of us maintain a healthy relationship with this aspect of ourselves. Therefore, there is great importance and benefits in learning how to connect with our inner child, however, the task at hand may not be so easy.

In our latest event, we collaborated to host the next instalment of Women’s Circle alongside a local yoga studio, Mood Studios Jakarta. This event featured a Vinyasa Yoga Class, hosted by Hana from Mood Studios, followed by a workshop that aimed to connect us with our child by Ishna Naresh, a Developmental Psychologist and Counsellor at Tase Psychology Center. Due to the experiences of our younger selves, we often hold on to negative core beliefs that no longer serve us, and although breaking down those beliefs can be challenging, we wanted to show that taking the first step is often all that matters. Through this session, our participants were introduced to tools and techniques that allowed them to identify the beliefs of their inner child and strengthen the voice of their adult self. This was wrapped up by a final activity where each participant was provided with a postcard to write a letter to their younger self, bringing a final moment of alignment between who they were and who they wanted to be.

We were so grateful to be able to share our resources with such a welcoming group of women and bring some clarity towards a topic that might otherwise be quite vague. By doing so, we wanted to emphasize that the journey towards healing and growing is not one that you should undertake on your own. There is strength in reaching out for help, being part of the community and sharing your story with others.

Thank you to all those who spent their Saturday morning with us, and we hope to see you soon for our upcoming events!
